Modern hospital building representing Uganda's new Heart Institute cardiovascular facility

Uganda’s New Heart Institute Hospital: What It Means for Healthcare Construction

Uganda recently reached a major milestone for its health sector with the groundbreaking of a state-of-the-art Heart Institute Hospital valued at around USD 250 million. The project is designed to expand access to advanced cardiovascular care and to reduce the country’s long-standing reliance on costly medical referrals abroad.

For years, the Uganda Heart Institute has operated within the Mulago National Specialised Hospital, where limited space has constrained its ability to keep pace with a rapidly rising number of patients. At the groundbreaking, the institute’s leadership highlighted the growing burden of heart disease across Uganda and the wider East African region as the driving reason for a dedicated, world-class facility.

Beyond treatment, the new hospital is expected to strengthen local medical expertise through specialised training and research, positioning Uganda as a regional hub for cardiovascular care and medical tourism.

At Home Builders Limited, projects like this are close to home. Delivering a modern hospital is one of the most demanding forms of construction: it combines complex mechanical and electrical systems, strict hygiene and safety standards, specialised theatre and diagnostic spaces, and reliable power and water infrastructure, all delivered to exacting timelines. With three decades of experience across building and civil engineering, electrical and mechanical works, and turnkey project management, we understand what it takes to build facilities that communities depend on.

As Uganda invests in healthcare infrastructure, we’re proud to be part of the sector building the spaces where that care happens.
